Wyse Winterm desktops are Secure, Managed, Affordable, and
Reliable Thin Clients – and a SMART desktop choice for your
organization.
What Are Thin Clients?
Thin-client computing is simply when
you host all applications and data centrally on a server and
access them using a simple graphics-based terminal (referred
to as a thin client). This is different from a client-server
architecture where some of the data and applications reside on
PCs spread throughout the organization. Because no
applications or data reside on the desktop, it is "thin" when
compared with the traditional PC.
Thin clients are the
successor to the mainframe terminal, offering both the
benefits of centralized computing and the interface and
application access of a PC.
Secure
Your data is protected in many ways when you use Winterm
clients. For example, since you don't have floppy or hard
drives on the desktop, data is almost never lost, stolen or
corrupted by mechani-cal failure, virus or malicious attack.
Because all data is stored on central servers that are managed
by trained IT personnel, your virus-checking soft-ware will
always be up to date, and everyone's data files will be backed
up for them.
Managed
When it comes to deploying new
desktops, nothing is easier than a Winterm thin client. Forget
about PC staging and hard disk image management - a Winterm
thin client can be set up in five minutes by a non-technician,
from opening the box to logging on, assuring that users will
stay productive without set-up disruption.
Wyse Rapport, which comes standard with all models, allows
Winterm terminals to be managed and firmware to be upgraded
remotely over the network or a modem from a central location
using industry standards such as DHCP and SNMP. With Wyse
Rapport, an administrator can manage up to tens of thousands
of devices from one location.
Affordable
The Winterm thin clients are affordable, both in terms of
initial acquisition cost, and their ROI savings. Wyse thin
clients deliver an ROI of 300-800% every year, for five years
or more. Analysts estimate that thin clients reduce your cost
of desktop computing by 28-57% per year over a typical
networked PC.
Based on prices that start as low as $299, you can recover the
cost of a Wyse thin client in one to three months. And since
these savings are realized through reduced maintenance,
service, and support, without the need for constant upgrades,
your benefits will continue to grow every month you use a Wyse
thin client.
Reliable
Winterm terminals are reliable, resilient, and robust. Because
they have no standard moving parts and use very little power
(and therefore generate very little heat), they rarely need
service. Their reliability has been tested at more than
175,000 hours Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), compared with
only 25,000 hours for the average PC. So, not only will they
be useful for at least two to three times the useable life of
a PC, they will require less regular maintenance and emergency
repair.
